Tokyo City Guide - Intro

Tokyo is a top destination for automotive and motorsport enthusiasts.

If you are a motorsport fan planning a trip to Tokyo, I have created the ultimate travel guide for you - including everything you need to know from which events you can attend, where to find cool car meets and experiences, recommendations for where to stay and where to eat, and so much more.

As an intro to the comprehensive guide, I’m going to share with you for free my top 3 motorsport favourites from my most recent Tokyo trip.

My Top 3

Nissan Crossing

The renowned Nissan Crossing showroom is a must-visit while visiting Tokyo. Even if you are on a non-motorsport-related trip, this is a simple spot to visit that will keep everyone entertained. Located in the heart of Ginza, this is more than just a showroom for one of Japan’s most iconic automotive brands. Of course, you will get to see a beautiful assortment of cars on display. These displays are regularly switched up so there’s always something new and worth stopping by for - when I visited I saw a new Fairlady Z Version ST and a 1970 Fairlady Z-L (S30), as well as the fan-favourite GTR which I even got to sit inside and get a feel for (this was definitely a highlight for me!) However, the most interesting part of this showroom experience is the Nissan Cafe upstairs. Here you can order a delicious drink, and what makes it even more special is getting to pick your favourite Nissan model and they will print it on top of your drink! For me, I obviously had to order a coffee with a GTR print and I was so pleasantly surprised for how it good it looked and how good the coffee was.

Underground Tokyo Meet

Experience Tokyo Drift in real life! Attending an underground car meet in Japan was a dream come true for me. This was one thing I was really hoping to find and experience while I was in Tokyo and I still can’t believe how amazing it was. Just the day before, I found out about this exclusive car meet that was happening the next evening and I immediately knew I had to go. I honestly had no idea what to expect yet it still reached beyond my expectations. Firstly, getting to see all of these amazing cars all in one place. From iconic JDM classics to wild modifications, there was really a little bit of everything. Secondly, it was so incredible to see the number of enthusiasts gathered together on a cold night and connecting over this mutual love for everything automotive.

Tokyo Auto Salon

Of course this has to be on the list of events to attend. Tokyo Auto Salon is one of the biggest automotive conventions and exhibitions worldwide, and it is a true haven for car enthusiasts. Plan your Tokyo trip around this event in January each year, you will have an unforgettable automotive experience. Not only will you get to witness the extent of Japanese innovation, you will also get to experience true Tokyo car culture with all of the meets and events that are planned around this exhibition. With fans coming together from all over the world to attend this weekend event, you will also be sure to connect with all of passionate people involved in this incredible car community.
