Formula 1 Austin GP Weekend

USA

Are you a motorsports enthusiast looking for an unforgettable experience in Austin, Texas? If so, you’re in for a treat, with the Formula 1 USA Grand Prix weekend in the Lone Star State’s capital. As the world converges on this city, here’s your go-to guide for making the most of this adrenaline-pumping event, combined with a taste of Austin’s vibrant culture.

Getting There

By Air: Austin-Bergstrom International Airport (AUS) is the main gateway. Book your flights well in advance to secure the best deals, and plan enough time before and after the busy race day.

By Road: If you’re coming from neighboring cities or states, plan your road trip, but be aware of potential traffic during the event.

Where to Stay

Austin offers a range of accommodations, but they fill up quickly during the Grand Prix weekend. Book your stay as early as possible. Popular areas to stay in include:

  • Downtown: For those who love city life, stay in the heart of Austin’s action.

  • South Congress (SoCo): Experience South Austin’s vibe in this trendy neighborhood, known for its shops, restaurants and entertainment venues.

  • East Austin: Find some cool spots and discover the city’s artistic side in this popular neighborhood.

  • Airport: Convenient and efficient, if you just want to go straight to the race and back. Only about a 15-minute drive to the Circuit of the Americas.

Race Day Essentials

Tickets: Make sure you have your tickets ready.

Transportation: Given the traffic around the circuit, consider taking shuttle services, ride-sharing, or carpooling. I found the best circuit transport option to be the shuttle – but also recommend buying tickets in advance.

Ear Protection: Formula 1 cars can be incredibly loud. Bring earplugs or noise-canceling headphones if needed to protect your hearing.

Food and Drink: The circuit has a variety of food and beverage options, but you can also bring your own snacks. A water bottle is also a good idea as there are several refill stations throughout the event space.

Sun Protection: Sunscreen, sunglasses, and a hat are essential in Texas weather, even in October.
