Staying in Tokyo, Ginza | Hotel Intergate

In January 2024, I visited Tokyo for my very first Tokyo Auto Salon experience. One of the biggest automotive exhibitions in the world, featuring top cars, brands, technology, and so much more.

My Unforgettable First Experience at Tokyo Auto Salon

Along with the excitement and everything to look forward to, there also comes the planning stage. One of the biggest parts of planning a trip, especially a motorsport event trip, is deciding where to stay. Personally, I tend to follow specific criteria to help me pick - including location preferences, transport access, budgets, where the nearest coffee shop is, etc.

After my thorough research for this trip, I decided two things:

1. to stay in the Ginza district

2. to stay at the Hotel Intergate Tokyo Kyobashi

Staying in Ginza

For some further explanation on my decision-making, I looked into the various most popular and common neighborhoods to stay in when visiting Tokyo. These included Ginza, Shibuya, Shinjuku, Akihabara, and a few others.

I had visited Tokyo before but it was a long time ago and I played zero part in the planning so that didn’t necessarily help me. But I knew enough to know that Ginza was a good area, being the business district and known for its luxury scene. With further research I also noticed it had very good public transport access, with the big Tokyo train station as well as lots of connecting metro lines. Directly on the Ginza metro line you have easy access to Shibuya and other hotspots. This transportation factor was important for me because I knew I would be taking the train to and from Makuhari Messe (the venue hosting Tokyo Auto Salon).

I have to say, I loved staying in Ginza. During my Tokyo trip I of course traveled around and discovered plenty of other areas, but I always loved coming back to my familiar neighborhood and streets. I found some favourite restaurants and cafes, did lots of luxurious window shopping, strolled through the many malls, and always spotted some unique cars.

Staying in Ginza also made it super easy to visit some of my favourite motorsport spots, such as the Nissan Crossing and Porsche Studio showrooms. This neighborhood is perfect for motorsport fans and car enthusiasts looking to spot exotic cars and visit luxury car showrooms.

Hotel Intergate Tokyo Kyobashi

Then came finding the hotel. I came across the Hotel Intergate Tokyo Kyobashi through my research across several maps and accommodation platforms. There were definitely other hotels and accommodations that I took into consideration as my best options, but this one stood out for me. Firstly, it met my preferences and criteria.

The location - amazing. Barely 2 minutes walking straight out of the metro station exit. Maybe 5 minutes walking to the main Ginza streets. A 7-11 directly at the hotel entrance (trust me this is a good thing, 7-11 in Japan is on another level). Other nearby attractions include the Tsukiji Outer Market, Kōkyo Palace and Gardens, the famous 12-story Uniqlo shop, a flagship Muji store, and so much more. Although this neighborhood might not be known for its trendy cafes and shops, there were numerous spots that I would definitely recommend, you won’t run out of places to visit, and you always find something interesting just walking along the little streets and alleys.

The hotel itself was also very clean and comfortable. I have no complaints about my stay here. The room was definitely on the smaller side, but that is typical of Japan and was not a problem for me either. I stayed in a very comfortable single room with a private bathroom, they came to clean everyday, they even provided branded pyjamas, and the bathroom was also equipped with the famous Japanese toilets. I also didn’t have any issues with noise, temperature (there was air conditioning), or security.

Beyond the room, the hotel did have several services and amenities. I chose to include breakfast in my stay which I would definitely recommend. You can easily start your day by going downstairs and exploring their breakfast buffet, including plenty of local food options that were very good and felt very nutritious. I discovered that I actually love having a hot miso soup in the morning. After that you feel satisfied and ready to start a long day of exploring Tokyo, without the hassle and ‘hanger’ that sometimes comes with having to find a breakfast spot outside each morning. Additionally, the hotel offered lounge service throughout the day - from breakfast in the morning, to afternoon tea and cakes, to happy hour in the evenings, and even late night snacks. This was a great option knowing you could always grab a quick bite or drink, and sometimes even an opportunity to meet new people.

Overall, I had an incredible time in Tokyo. Attending Tokyo Auto Salon, along with exploring the fabulous city, finding insane car meets, and having a great accommodation, all added up to a pretty perfect Tokyo trip. I definitely recommend this hotel to anyone looking for somewhere to stay in Tokyo, especially if you want to be in Ginza and don’t want to break the bank on a luxury 5-star hotel.
